Cabby jailed for punching another taxi driver for abusing dying mother

SOURCE: The Straits Times Online

A cabby, who punched another taxi driver's head and face several times, was jailed a week on July 2.

When Chng Chuan Siak pleaded guilty in May, the 54-year-old told a district court that he lost his temper as the victim had made vulgar remarks about his mother who had been diagnosed with terminal cancer.

However, District Judge Low Wee Ping said he agreed with the prosecutor that a jail sentence was appropriate in this road rage incident as Chng's response was disproportionate to any aggravation from the victim.

It happened on Dec 5 2011, at 6pm at the taxi stand of Singapore Expo Foyer 2. Mr Low Swee Kuan had come up alongside as Chng's taxi had not moved forward in the queue.

Court documents state that Chng started gesturing wildly and was seen mumbling before moving his taxi forward. Mr Low reversed to join the queue again.

Chng alighted and approached Mr Low's vehicle, yelling. Mr Low hurled back Hokkien vulgarities about Chng's mother and was punched.

He sustained multiple bruises on the head and face.

Chng said that at that time, he had just received news that his mother's illness was incurable. He said Mr Low had persisted in spewing the obscenities despite being told that Chng's mother did not have long to live.

She died in April 2012.

PS:
2 cabbies fighting.
Whose fault?
I say both.
Why when people argue, like to scold people's parent?
Though its wrong to fight.
But the other guy deserved it for scolding people's parents.
