STOMPer Jeff noticed that several cab drivers have been
openly displaying their reluctance to drive passengers to Sentosa, to
the extent that they would feign ignorance of places located on the
island and pretend not to understand the passengers.
Said the STOMPer:
"There seems to be some (not all) cab drivers who express their disappointment when a passenger tells them that their route is to Sentosa.
"Generally, drivers should not pick routes, or show disappointment.
"Sentosa is also being promoted as a destination.
"So yesterday (Apr 22), a passenger from Marriott Hotel tells a cab driver to go to Beach Station in Sentosa so that he could go to iFly.
"Not only did the cab driver pretend not to know where Beach Station is (can this be possible?), the driver dropped the passenger off at Shangri-La's Rasa Sentosa Resort -- and the passenger speaks clear English that even Siri can recognise!
"Could it be that the cab driver wanted an instant passenger from the hotel and sensed that this passenger was a tourist so he felt that he could "take advantage" of that? It seemed so.
"From now onwards, Sentosa-bound passengers should just note down and report cab drivers who create trouble or express disappointment for having to go there.
"I know because I have confronted two cabbies.
"One murmured endlessly about the route to himself, and another drove recklessly.
"The next driver will surely get his number plate reported by me, and hopefully by other readers who are also offended by such unprofessional behaviour.
"I have also met other impressive cab drivers who not only give an enjoyable chat but actually carry a demeanour that is like one of a limousine driver.
"They should be commended, and I am glad there are more of them than the regrettable group with poor conduct."
